There's definitely corruption on both sides.  As for 50%, remember that it's not 50% up front in the form of the Fed/State income tax, but also you pay taxes in so many other ways.  Did you read the list of taxes that were listed?  And if you live in NC, there's about to be more:&lt;br /&gt;
